Whether you’re a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, a New York Giants fan or a follower of the New York Yankees, you may like to put a little money down on a game for reasons of your own; to make it more interesting or to make some extra cash by testing your sports knowledge. Sports betting is currently illegal in the state of New Jersey, but their governor is making a push to get it legalized and it appears as though he has the support of many voters.
Chris Christie came out and advocated sports betting, and he threw his full support behind it last week as he plans to recommend it is included in a referendum to be held shortly. Christie says that he harbors no illusion that gambling isn’t going on in his state, and that is a smart and non-naïve way to think about this. It especially caters to price per head bookmaking agents in New Jersey, which of course is connected to New York. Think about it: New Jersey hosts the football stadium that the aforementioned Giants play in, as well as the Jets, the NHL’s Devils are in that state, and then there are the connections to all of the New York teams in other sports.
In these economically troubling times, the government is forced to come up with creative ways to bring in revenue, and this is an excellent way of doing this. People are going to bet anyway, so why not bring them above ground and suggest they wager in your sports betting books?
