NCAA football betting players just finished a slew of mock drafts to see where the best gridiron players would go, and now basketball players will prepare to do the same as the picture is a bit clearer in the NBA after the lottery was held on Tuesday night.
Washington won the luck of the draw for the first time since 2001, but they'll hope to do better as the Wizards (and then-Director of Basketball Operations Michael Jordan) picked Kwame Brown, who may be the worst No.1 pick of all time. Philadelphia, New Jersey (who had the best chance of landing the top pick), Minnesota and Sacramento round out the top five, and now the choice will be for the Wizards: who will they select, John Wall or Evan Turner?
Wall, the lightning-quick point guard who spent a year at Kentucky, has been the consensus No.1 pick all season, but Turner was the National Player of the Year in his third year at Ohio State. Philadelphia would love to see Turner fall to them at No.2, while four forwards are considered to be in the running for top-five picks: Syracuse's Wes Johnson, and then a trio of power forwards, Wall's Kentucky teammate, DeMarcus Cousins, Georgia Tech's Derrick Favors and Wake Forest's Al-Farouq Aminu.
All told, Wall is too good of a guard to pass up on. The Wizards will obviously look at the last two guards that have been coached by Kentucky's John Calipari, both of whom have been named the past two rookies of the year: Chicago's Derrick Rose, and Sacramento's Tyreke Evans (who Calipari coached at Memphis). Even though he can't turn it around on his own, Wall should be a boost to Washington's betting odds next season.
